Definition & Nature of Environment, pollution, Ecology and Ecosystem
Definition: Environment refers to living and non-living things and how they interact with their surroundings including the atmosphere, air, water, and land. Dictionaries define “environment” as the objects or the region surrounding anything. Accordingly, it encompasses both the features and the products of the natural world and those of human civilization.
Environment pollution: May be defined as an undesirable change in the physical, chemical or biological characteristics of water, air or land what will be harmful to human or other life, industrial process, living conditions and cultural assets. Environment is also define as a situation of environment where adverse physical, chemical, biological or radioactive changes of water, air, soil or other elements of environment create directly or indirectly harmful effects to live on earth immediately or later, short or long term basis.
Ecology: Is a science related to the environment and nature, which is concerned with animals and plants, and that branch of biology, which deals with the relations of living organisms to their surrounding, their habits and modes of life.
Ecosystem: The term ‘ecosystem’ refers to the combined physical and biological components of an environment. An ecosystem is generally an area within the natural environment in which physical (biotic) factors of the environment, such as rocks and soil, function together along with interdependent (biotic) organisms, such as plants animals, within the same habitat. Ecosystem can be permanent or temporary. Ecosystems usually form a number of food webs. The ecosystem is a unit of ecology which includes the plants and animals occurring together plus that part of their environment over which they have an influence. An ecosystem is a complex set of relationships among living resources, habitats and residents of a region.
